HP Regeneration In Dota

A hero's HP regenerates over time. There are several ways to give HP regeneration to a hero.

First, all heroes have some sort of "base" HP regeneration. This is usually around 0.25 HP/ second, and is fixed throughout the game.

There are a few exceptions:

    * The morphed form of the Lycanthrope has 3 health per second but only regenerates during the night;
    * The Soul Keeper regenerates 1 health per second in morphed form;
    * The Soul Keeper regenerates 0.5 health per second in normal form but only regenerates during the night;
    * The Shadow Fiend and Ursa Warrior regenerate 0.5 health per second.

Second, heroes can buy HP regeneration items, such as Ring of Regeneration, Ring of Health, Heart of Tarrasque etc. to regain HP. For example Ring of Regeneration gives you 2 HP per second.

Third, strength also factors into HP regeneration, and the formula is HP regeneration from Strength = Strength * 0.03

Fourth, certain heroes can regenerate HP with special skills. Some examples are Dragon Knight's Dragon Blood, and Razor's Unholy Aura.

Fifth, heroes can regenerate HP from Satyr Hellcaller's Unholy Aura (4HP/sec)

Sixth, heroes can go to the fountain to regenerate HP. Fountain gives you 4% of your MAXIMUM HP per second.

Seventh, heroes can regenerate HP by getting a Regeneration Rune. A regeneration will regenerate 6% of the hero's maximum HP, for 45 seconds. If the hero is attacked during this period the effect will stop.

Eight, heroes can regenrate HP by consuming a Sapphire Water. Sapphire Water will regenerate 20HP per second, for 20 seconds. If the hero is attacked during this period, the effect will stop.

Ninth, heroes can regenerate the Tango of Essification and consume a tree. It will regenerate 5 HP per second, for 20 seconds.

Illustration on how to apply these rules:

For example a Dragon Knight with 2000 HP, 100 Strength, level 4 Dragon Blood, and a Ring of Health is standing next to the fountain together with w Satyr Hellcaller. How much HP per second will he receive?

Answer:

    * Regeneration from Strength = 100*0.03 = 3HP/sec;
    * Regeneration from Ring of Health = 4HP/sec;
    * Regeneration from Unholy Aura = 4HP/sec;
    * Regeneration from Dragon Blood = 4HP/sec;
    * Regeneration from Fountain = 2000*0.04 = 80HP/sec;
    * Regeneration from Base Regeneration = 0.25HP/sec

Altogether Dragon Knight will gain 95.25 HP/sec.

Mana Regeneration

A hero's mana regenerates over time. There are several ways to give mana regeneration to a hero.

First, most heroes have some sort of "base" mana regeneration. This is usually around 0.01 mana/ second, and is fixed throughout the game. The only exception is Goblin Techies. He has 0.02 mana/ second "base" mana regeneration.

Second, intelligence also factors into mana regeneration, and the formula is Mana regeneration from Intelligence = Intelligence * 0.04

Third, heroes can buy mana regeneration item to speed up the mana regeneration rate. For example, a void stone gives you 100% mana regeneration, which means if you have 50 Intelligence, Void Stone will double the mana regeneration from intelligence such that you're regenerating as fast as another hero with 100 Intelligence and no void stone.

Fourth, heroes can regenerate mana by standing next to the fountain. Again the fountain gives the hero 4% of his maximum mana per second

Fifth, certain heroes can gain mana by certain skills. Some examples of such is Dark Ritual, and Sadist.

Sixth, heroes can gain mana by standing close to Crystal Maiden (provided that she has learnt Brilliance) or standing next to someone who has Ring of Basilius. Ring of Basilius gives you 0.65 MP/sec, and this is FIXED throughout the game. Same for Crystal Maiden's Brilliance Aura. At level 4 it gives you 1.33 MP/ sec, and this number is FIXED, UNAFFECTED BY OTHER MANA REGENERATION ITEMS.

Seventh, heroes can regenerate mana by getting Regeneration Rune. A Regeneration Rune can regenerate 10% of the hero's maximum mana for 45 seconds. If the hero is attacked during this period, the effect will stop.

Eighth, heroes can regenerate mana by consuming Clarity Potion. A Clarity Potion can regenerate 100 mana over 30 seconds. If the hero is attacked during this period, the effect will stop.

Illustration on how to apply these rules:

For example a Rhasta with 2000 MP, 100 Intelligence, a Ring of Basilius, and a Guinsoo's Scythe of Vyse is standing next to the fountain. How much MP per second will he receive?

Answer:

    * Regeneration from Intelligence = 100*0.04 = 4MP/sec;
    * Regeneration from Guinsoo's Scythe of Vyse = 4MP/sec * 1.5 = 6MP/sec;
    * Regeneration from Ring of Basilius = 0.65MP/sec;
    * Regeneration from Fountain = 2000*0.04 = 80MP/sec;
    * Regeneration from Base Regeneration = 0.01MP/sec

Altogether, Rhasta will gain 90.66MP per second.
